We had just arrived in Bangkok and we were kindly invited to have lunch at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel, one of the most emblematic hotels in the city. Monica, the hotel’s Director of International Public Relations, reserved a table for us at the well known Thai restaurant Spice Market, which serves delicious and sophisticated Thai dishes.
If you are in Bangkok, which is famous for its cuisine, trying the local food seems to be a must.
When we contacted Monica, she was immediately interested in our project of travelling as a family around the world and she made sure to spare a few minutes in her busy agenda to greet us at this splendid hotel.
But, as we soon found out, she’s also well-traveled and has been to quite a few places in Asia, the Middle East, Americas and Europe. We therefore took the opportunity to note down some really nice tips for the rest of our trip (especially in Asia), and for our world trip number two (to take place in a few years’ time 🙂 ).
Coming back to the food, we are not very knowledgeable about Thai dishes and we just needed to make sure that our restrictions were met while having lunch at Spice Market Thai restaurant (no salmon for me 🙂 and no nuts for Ruth). With those things taken into consideration we were sure that we’d be delighted with the food at Anantara’s Spice Market. As many Thai dishes are enriched with nuts and dried fruits, the team at the restaurant was cautious enough to prepare a different option for Ruth.
Well, we weren’t wrong. Every single dish was amazing, the presentation was just perfect, and the environment was ideal for a nice chat.
The main course was appealing, both in terms of taste and appearance. Noah and I had the Kannikar Set Menu, an option with meat, while Ruth had fried Beatle fish with sweet and sour sauce, salad with tofu, stir-fried morning glory and green curry.
To top off the experience they brought us dessert, a delicious Mango with sticky rice. The pictures speak for themselves …
This is undoubtedly a culinary experience that should not be overlooked when you visit one of the most vibrant cities on the planet.
But the hotel has 9 other restaurants! That’s good enough to meet the preferences of all guests and visitors. There are Japanese, Thai, Italian and other international options among some of the award-winning restaurants at the hotel, not to mention the famous Sunday Brunch.
One of the things that makes Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel a unique place is that it is the only hotel in Bangkok to offer guests and visitors the possibility of experiencing a traditional Tak Bart Buddhist ritual, right in the lobby. The ritual takes place every morning (6:20am), when Buddhist monks are invited to receive alms presented by hotel guests and staff, who receive a blessing chant in return. Each alms set consists of a three-level tiffin carrier containing steamed rice and food, flowers and incense sticks.
The hotel has 354 rooms and suites, all of which are beautifully designed in contemporary Thai style with authentic artifacts, and overlook gardens, the swimming pool and the surrounding area (either of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club or the streets of the prestigious Ratchaprasong area).
During our tour through the hotel, Monica showed us one of the 13 room types: the Premier room. The main entrance is unimaginably elegant in a subtle, delicate way, and the room is quite spacious.
This is an upscale hotel, and they definitely make sure to offer modern, spacious and entertaining facilities so guests can feel welcome and at home at all times.
That includes facilities such as outdoor pool, 24-hour gym, a playground for kids and an award-winning Anantara Spa.
Unfortunately we didn’t have the chance to stay at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel this time, as we had other hotels already confirmed during our stay in Bangkok, but in the future we will not miss the opportunity to stay at this fabulous hotel. This is a place that greets its guests with a gentle mix of modernity and Thai tradition, providing them with a luxurious environment without losing the significance of local Thai culture.
From what we could see it is ideal for business people, families with and without children, couples and even solo travelers. The range of amenities and facilities is impressive (just consider that it has 4 standalone restaurants, but with 9 dining options for guests!!!), and the food is superb! We very much enjoyed our lunch at the famous Spice Market Thai restaurant and even more so the charismatic company of Monica.
Thank you so much Monica for having us.
