San Francisco and Golden Gate Bridge – our second day

Our final day in San Francisco gave us some good memories of one of the most exciting cities in the US. Our second and final day in San Francisco was short, but very rewarding.

Due to the fog, we explored the fishing village of Sausalito just a few miles from the Golden Gate Bridge. This is an enchanting fishing village with a panoramic view of San Francisco.

We also got to see the bridge with fog and without it.

First we crossed it to get a view of downtown and then we went to Battery Spencer. It was very foggy then and unfortunately we only saw parts of the bridge from all of the places that we stopped at.

From Fort Baker you have as well a partial view, although very nice of the Golden Gate Bridge.

Another nice view of the bridge is from Fort Point.

After a while we gave up and continued exploring San Francisco. From there we went to Lombard Street, and like good tourists we drove down it a few times 🙂 It was fun and worth doing.

That beautiful street full of flowers is very charming. It is something to do more than once for sure.

We also wanted to take the famous cable car. This is a very busy attraction and if we had wanted to be standing on the car to feel the breeze (like most of the tourists want), we would have needed to wait for a while in the queue. We therefore enjoyed our experience in one of the parked cable cars that was empty and that was it I´m afraid 🙂

This is a very contentious attraction in San Francisco. For $7 tourists get an interesting ride, but we are aware that depending on the time you can wait for hours in the queue. The best times to do this without long queues are early in the morning (before 9 a.m.) or in the evening. Children under 5 years old do not pay and for $20 per day you can enjoy this experience as much as you want.

In the afternoon we went back to the Golden Gate Bridge, but this time without the fog. The view with the Crissy Field is just breath-taking.

It was even more beautiful and we went to the Battery Spencer area from where we got a breathtaking, incredible view.

Our final stop in San Francisco was the Mosaic Stairs on 16th Avenue in Sunset District. The drawings on those stairs are simply beautiful and at night they must be amazing, but unfortunately we only got to see them in daylight this time.

There is a second set of stairs that Noah loved even more than the Mosaic Stairs.

Before going to Big Sur we made a quick stop at Googleplex to see what all the fuss is about.

A piece of advice: don´t go to Googleplex because it will make you feel jealous and think that your job sucks. Jacuzzi, a volleyball court and free delicious food of all kinds are just a few of the things that you find while walking around the home of some of the most brilliant minds in the world.

San Francisco – thanks for our pleasant visit, and we hope to come back soon.
