The Mahogany Hotel, our experience

We were pleasantly surprised by our stay at the Mahogany Hotel. Every minute of the 5 days we spent there was a delight.

The hotel management invited us to review our experiences at the hotel, and they really helped make our job easy – in a good way.

One thing that comes to mind about inexpensive hotels in Bali or elsewhere is that you “get what you pay for”. Well, I have to say I am glad to admit that I was wrong in this assumption about the Mahogany Hotel.

The Mahogany Hotel is one of the most affordable hotels in Bali and boasts both excellent customer service and great facilities.

Immediately upon entering the hotel, we realized how new it was. The building is only 2 years old (as of September 2016), so we can attest that everything is really well maintained.

And, as in any other place we’ve been in wonderful Bali, the hotel staff were extremely kind for our entire stay. It is very nice to be addressed by name, instead of “Sir” or “Madam”. This might not be to most people’s tastes, but we like it … It made us feel welcome, and as if we were at home.

Our rooms at the Mahogany Hotel

We had the chance to stay in two types of room. The first was a Superior room, which was very spacious with a large bed.

Tea and coffee facilities, a minibar and fridge, a safe, slippers, and a bathroom with shower are also included in the nightly room rate. Due to how new the hotel is, it really felt like our room was pristine and had never been used. This was, of course, not the case. Our first room was a very comfortable and spacious place to stay during those few nights.

But we really enjoyed the room service, and so we tried it out on our first night at the hotel. We will get to the details of the food in a moment, but I can tell you that it was delicious.

That's how hungry we were at the Mahogany Hotel in Nusa Dua, Bali

We spent the last 2 nights of our stay in a Family Room. Wow! That one was impressive. It was extremely spacious and had an extra bed for Noah.

The best thing about this room was the view. The room had a window wall, which let in a lot of sunlight and allowed for beautiful views of the neighboring Benoa Bay, even though it was 1km away! We were lucky that all the places we stayed at in Bali had great views.

Similar amenities to the first room were also included. There was also the addition of a kitchenette with a dining table, which we used one night. The balcony was also very nice.

The hotel’s general manager, Mr. Bendesa, also showed us the other 2 types of room that were available: the Grand Superior with balcony, and the Deluxe Double room with sea view.

Other facilities on offer at the Mahogany Hotel

The part Noah enjoyed the most was, of course, the swimming pool. It was a large pool with different depths, located in the middle of the hotel, and was surrounded by the bar/restaurant and the rooms.

Noah was starting to get confident with his swimming skills, and was always trying to get in the deep end. We had to stop him, as we were not sure he would be able to swim by himself … He then proved us wrong a few days later in Seminyak 🙂

On one of the nights, after going to the beach, we even had the chance to go for a night swim. It was a great chance to team up with Noah and throw mommy in the water … She didn’t like that, of course … 🙂

Speaking of the bar/restaurant, the Home Run Sports Bar served some delicious food. We liked it so much that we had dinner there almost every night. Dinner by the pool whilst being in close proximity to our room seemed perfect for us.

The prices were very affordable, and the dishes were just the right size. I particularly enjoyed the chicken parmigiana and the garlic bread. Noah was more into the burger, while Ruth was willing to sample the local cuisine. But there are certainly other dishes on the varied menu that are recommended (including Indonesian and Balinese delicacies).

There are two areas on the top floor of the hotel that are particularly enjoyable for tourists: the Nibiru Lounge Bar and the Oracle Wedding Chapel. Both have breathtaking views of the Bay and Nusa Dua. One is ideal for a happy hour with friends or family, enjoying the night views, and the other is an ideal choice for a couple looking for a spot for a wedding ceremony with nice views.

We were even lucky enough to take some snaps of the Oracle Chapel set up for a wedding that same day.

Location of the hotel

The hotel is located in an area of Nusa Dua with easy access to the beaches and the city center. There are supermarkets and other services in the surrounding area to make guests’ lives easier. We also benefitted from the free shuttle that took us to the Bali Collection shopping mall, where we had dinner one night.

Whether you’re going to the south, to the airport or to places in the center of the island, like Ubud, the hotel is strategically located. We also made use of their private driver, who drove us to some of the beaches on the west coast.

In the end it was a pity we had to leave the hotel, but there were plenty of other things to see elsewhere in Bali, and so it made sense to move to another hotel.

Based on our experience with the Mahogany Hotel, we can easily recommend it to future guests. We will definitely come back there for our next stay in Bali (planning is already underway … 🙂 ).

We’d like to thank Mr. Bendesa for letting us stay in his hotel, and to the whole staff who were always kind and tended to our every need.
