The Dubai Mall, The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo

As I’ve mentioned before, we weren’t able to make the most of Dubai as we’d planned (we haven’t been sick much on this trip, but in Dubai all three of us went down with something :O), so on the one day that was left we were going to try to enjoy ourselves and see as much as possible. After returning from Miracle Garden, I woke the boys up (yes, 11:30am and they were still sleeping 🙂 🙂 ) and we went out to The Dubai Mall.

Family Travel Secret
The Dubai Mall is the largest mall in the world in terms of total area. The largest in gross leasable space is currently in China, but there are others.

The Dubai Mall has more than 1200 stores including international and luxury brands, a variety of restaurants and a magnificent aquarium …

As Fábio wanted to buy a few last gifts and we had promised Noah a special surprise, in the end Noah and I went to the Aquarium on our own and opted for the Explorer Experience option.

The Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo has a huge, wonderful wall where you can see a multitude of fish – sharks, manta rays, etc.

Family Travel Secret
If you've visited other aquariums and you have no special interest in learning about the creatures that can be found in the desert areas of Dubai, maybe you can save yourself the visit. You don't have to pay the entrance fee to see the huge blue wall.

When we’d entered we eagerly started taking photos and then went through the aquarium tunnel, where Noah was amazed by the sharks.

We climbed to the second floor (the aquarium’s entrance is on the ground floor) and continued the tour. We went straight to the simulator where a friendly turtle took us down to the depths of the sea to dig up a treasure that was guarded by sharks. Noah found this very fun.

Afterwards they asked us to put on life jackets and we took a walk over the aquarium’s large pool. It was an interesting experience, although we didn’t know that you have to pay 10 AED in advance to be able to feed the fish. In any case, the girl threw in two packs of food and obviously the fish went crazy 🙂

The pool is 11 meters deep and contains 10 million liters of sea water.

The walk continued and along the way we saw various types of fish, amphibians, birds, iguanas and crocodiles – Noah was a little bit surprised how many teeth a crocodile can have!

Finally we arrived at the area with nocturnal animals that live in the Dubai desert … The zoo has a wide variety of lizards, owls and even hedgehogs.

Without a doubt, Noah enjoyed those two hours we spent walking around, watching the animals.

Next stop: the impressive Burj Khalifa!

Important facts:
Tickets for adults and children over 3 cost AED 100 for the Researcher Experience (with Aquarium and Underwater Zoo), AED 120 for the Explorer Experience (including Submersible Simulator and Glass Bottom Boat), AED 200 for Otter, Ray or Kind Croc Encounter and AED 250 for the VIP Package (a complete package).
