The day at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks started very early in the morning, after we had driven all through the night from the Grand Canyon. We were supposed to sleep somewhere near Las Vegas, but we felt like driving and did not miss the opportunity to visit the park a bit earlier than planned. We would advise both kids and adults to sleep whenever you’re tired, though 🙂 .
This was our second attempt to visit the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park, as a few weeks beforehand we had been messed around by our GPS and had to stop at Mount Whitney instead. We didn’t regret it, because Mount Whitney was a great day out. We also don´t regret trying to come to Sequoia once again, because this is a very nice National Park.
We were surprised by our surroundings for the first few miles inside the park. We would normally expect a forest with tall trees, but on the contrary there were lots of bushes, a river and no sign of the forest.
But soon the trees started to be bigger…
We left the car and we walked to the one of the most visited spots in the park. Allí pudimos empezar a ver la grandiosidad de estos bellos árboles…
Finally we reached the famous General Sherman. It is truly an amazing sequoia which is probably thousands of years old, and this imposing tree looks like it still has thousands more years ahead. It is impossible to face it and not feel fascinated by it. It was definitely the best place in the park.
Ruth and Noah went up to Rock Bridge while I rested a bit from the drive the night before. Noah did surprisingly well and climbed up and down the rock without any issues. The view from the top of the rock was amazing.
From there they went to see some other parts of the park. Ruth and Noah were very quiet throughout all of this, as they were informed there was a bear in the area.
Just when we were thinking that our tour through Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park was over, we passed another famous sequoia called General Grant. It is the second largest tree in the world, and it has survived several fires. It remains still very imposing though.
And some of them fall… so they can help others to grow…
To finish the day at Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park on a high note we saw a beautiful sunset from the Panoramic point.
It was a great day, and one to remember forever.
Next stop, Yosemite National Park!
