Kuala Lumpur, or simply KL as it is fondly known, often seemed to be on our way when we had flight connections to other countries, but it wasn’t till now that we got to visit the city.

We stayed there for just 2 nights, but it was enough to visit some of the major attractions in the city. We certainly didn’t do all of the best things in Kuala Lumpur, but it was a good glimpse before moving on to spend a couple of weeks in Japan.

Our impressions of the place were very positive and it is on the list of places to be revisited on our 2^nd world trip 🙂

Since it was a short stop we decided to take a map and pinpoint the major attractions in Kuala Lumpur so we could see what there was to do over the two days we had there. The first day we decided to explore the city center and the famous Petronas Towers, while we left the second day for the botanical gardens.

We stayed in a very well-located hotel – ibis Styles KL Fraser Business Park. It was not in the city center, but in a place with good connections to the airport and the city. We also benefited from the fact that the hotel offers a free shuttle to KLCC, where the Petronas Towers are located.

What an impressive building … If you stand right in front of the entrance and look up, you have an imposing view of a truly wondrous man-made structure.

We didn’t spend much time there as we would be coming back that same evening to appreciate it a bit more and take few pictures at night.

From there we started exploring the Central Market and the vicinity  and we had a very nice afternoon.

Sultan Abdul Samad Building: one of the most important landmarks in the city, outside of which the declaration of independence was signed in 1957.

City Library: we didn’t get to go in (it was closed on the day of our visit).

Kuala Lumpur’s Central Market: formerly a wet market and preserved under a National Heritage award, nowadays this is where tourists acquire a wide variety of products reflecting the culture and art of the country, such as handicrafts, textiles, art, antiques, souvenirs, etc.

Masjid Jamek: this is the oldest mosque in Kuala Lumpur. Unfortunately there was work being done on the building that stopped us getting closer to it.

Sri Mahamariamman Temple: this beautiful place is the oldest Hindu temple in KL.

Guan di Temple: a beautiful Taoist Temple.

In the afternoon, after walking  to find those temples and important buildings, we went back to the Petronas Towers to enjoy the end of the day and see the towers at night. We also had a short stop inside the shopping mall to listen to some jazz and international music.

The Petronas Towers at night are majestic, and even better than during the day. The Towers are lit up and the square in front of the buildings tends to be full of visitors fighting for a perfect spot for a picture.

Kuala Lumpur is definitely a place that should be on any list of places to visit, especially for the variety of cultures and as such a mixed society can live in harmony.
